Piss Piss Piss Moan Moan Moan/Fahri and more at the Borg Ward

No need to bring your test tubes, tonight’s experiments (which begin at 7 p.m.) at the Borg Ward, 823 W. National Avenue, are all auditory and visual.

Karl J. Paloucek (member of Fuckface, Impact Test, Shrilltower, and Boy Dirt Car) is joined by Reptile Worship, Battleship, Piss Piss Piss Moan Moan Moan, Fahri and Dan of Earth at an all-ages show.

Paloucek, currently of Chicago (although a former Wisconsinite) is sure to treat the audience to instrumental sounds and a visual show unlike any they’ve ever seen or heard before.  He’s been known to use a number of sewing machines, clock gongs and a variety of metals in or out of tune with objects such as a piano, water and/or a French horn.  He’s given me advance notice that this performance will be “loud and a little abrasive” and that he’ll be using part of what he performed with in Boy Dirt Car:  bass played with an orbital sander.

Reptile Worship is a duo, half of which half calls Milwaukee “home” and the other half of which is currently in grad school in Madison. Paul Steinhafel and AJ Nordhagen have put together an acoustic experience that includes (but is not limited to) guitar screeches, static, clanging metal and synthesizer-induced futuristic noises and describe their sound as “thick Midwestern industrial drone.”

Chicago-based Battleship consists of Zachary Mark and Jeff Miliam and describes their sound as “dark drones with a hint of noise,” although they do contend that describing their auditory effect is difficult. This stop on their brief tour is in support of their debut cassette

“Transhumanist” which has been put out on the Car Wash Tapes label (which is run by Zach).

Piss Piss Piss Moan Moan Moan, also from Chicago, uses “hazy soundscapes from outdated synthesizers, harmonizers, drum machines, and circuit-bent electronics with abrasive tribal-punk primitive drumming to induce trance-like symptoms,” according to Alejandro, one half of the duo. Primarily an instrumental band (save for a bit of chanting and screaming), PPPMMM is interested in inspiring moods with their noise art.

Fahri, from the land of beer and cheese, is two guitarist/vocalists and one drummer.  Their sound is best described as experimental (which, at this point of reading this story, should come as a surprise to no one) and playing this show is, perhaps in part, their way of preparing for their June 29 performance at the Cascio stage at Summerfest.

Dan of Earth, solo performer (given name:  Dan Schierl) is a “special guest artist” in the music and sound project Liver Pants. Word has it that this show will be unconventional, but past recordings sound heavily electronic with repeated samples.
