State of education in the Walker Era: Part Three

It was just over one year ago when Gov. Walker’s proposal to cut funding for public education and eliminate collective bargaining rights for public employees was met with staunch opposition at the Capitol square in Madison inciting a fiery debate, one that remains at the forefront of political discourse here in the great state of Wisconsin.
For part three of our series on education in the Walker Era, I spoke with UW-Milwaukee history professor Jasmine Alinder, who also runs the web site, ilovemypublicschool.com. I Love My Public School is a parent-led advocacy organization to support public education that started in response to the massive cuts to public education in 2011. Parents from Milwaukee are also working together to launch Milwaukee Parents for Public Schools, the first Wisconsin chapter of the national organization Parents for Public Schools. The organization has now been approved, and is in its incorporation process.
