Milwaukee is a diverse city with numerous events happening every weekend. The Third Coast Daily photo team visited several of them last weekend and has a photo gallery including Bastille Days, Shakespeare in the Park, the Milwaukee Public Market Farmer’s Market, and South Shore Frolics. Just a small sampling of what our fair city has to offer.

All photos taken by Sara Bill and Madeline Pieschel.

Thursday | Shakespeare in the Park

ShakespeareInThePark

Optimist Theater has been presenting Shakespeare in the Park for the last three years at Kaddish Park, hosted by COA (Children’s Outing Association) which is located next door. This year a brand new amphitheater and performance space was built giving the park a larger space for community events. Optimist was the first theater group welcomed into the space and is performing As You Like It, a romantic comedy from William Shakespeare. Additional performances will be held this week July 18-21 with an 8 p.m. showtime. All performances are free and open to the public, just make sure to arrive early for seating.

Friday | Bastille Days

BastilleDays

Bastille Days returned to Cathedral Square Park for a weekend celebration of all things en Francais. Wine tastings, cooking demonstrations, music, street performers, an international marketplace, and plenty of French and Cajun food gave the crowds plenty to do. Thursday night Milwaukeeans Stormed the Bastille in the festival’s annual run that takes over downtown Milwaukee and attracts nearly 5,000 participants each year. It was the perfect place to pretend you were in France for the day by have some Beignets and taking a mini French lesson from the Alliance Française. We love this festival so much we gave it its own photo gallery:

Saturday | Outdoor Urban Market

OutdoorUrbanMarket

Summer continues with weekly farmers markets all over the city, including one at the Milwaukee Public Market. Fresh seasonal produce and artwork from Milwaukee and regional artists fill the sidewalks every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on St. Paul Ave. For more information on area farmers markets, take a look at TCD’s 2013 Farmer’s Market Guide.

Sunday | South Shore Frolics

SouthShoreFrolics

South Shore Frolics is one of Milwaukee’s oldest festivals dating back to 1949 and originally known at the South Shore Water Frolic. On Saturday they had a huge parade that covered 2.5 miles down Kinnickinnic Avenue to South Shore Park. All weekend there were food vendors, music all day, fireworks each night, artists, rides and games for the kids and a car show.
