WAUKESHA, WIS. – The Youth Wind Orchestra of Wisconsin will perform at Carroll University on Saturday, May 3, 2014. The concert begins at 8 p.m. in Shattuck Music Center, 218 N. East Ave., Waukesha. It is free and open to the public.

This concert will feature “Café 512,” a Spanish Flamenco dancing piece by Ryan George, and “Star-Crossed” by Andrew Boysen Jr., accompanied by animation by Erik Evensen. This story is of a heroine named Red Rhapsody who clashes with The Maverick, who is terrorizing the city, while their alter egos fall in love. Additionally, selections by Gustav Holst, Samuel Hazo, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Hale VanderCook and Derek Bourgeois will be performed.

Youth Wind Orchestra of Wisconsin debuted in the 2003-04 season. Created to complement and support high school bands throughout southeast Wisconsin, this regional honors band consists of highly motivated, talented high school students selected by audition for membership. YWOW performs the highest quality repertoire available for high school bands, and was a featured ensemble at the Wisconsin Music Educators State Conference in 2011. YWOW is led by Dr. Lawrence Dale Harper, founder and principal conductor, Andrew Hacker, conductor, and Rob Engl, executive director and conductor.
